What're your thoughts on people who have many "friends" on facebook (like 700-1000)?

I've never seen the point either. They probably send out loads of requests to random people to get "popular". Okay people, lets be honest here. How many of you have actually met 700-1000 people before and would actually have time to speak to every single one them them...
