What kinds of beverages are more likely to cause plaque?

I've needed a lot of cleaning done on my teeth lately due to plaque. My dentist recommended I drink more water instead of tea, which is what I usually drink. Is there any connection to my preference for chamomile and green tea and the amount of buildup on my teeth? Or do I simply need to switch oral hygiene products more often? I don't drink soft drinks or smoke and eat a high fiber diet, if that helps any.
