How long does it take for an executor of a will to distribute funds after probate has been granted?

I am a beneficiary in a will which was granted on the 27th April 2010. The executor of the will has rarely been in contact throughout the process. How long should/could it take for an executor to distribute funds after probate has been granted? (I'm in the UK)...thanks in advance!
